Putin looked as if he was auditioning for a Bond film when he visited the Black Sea to explore a sunken shipwreck in a mini-sub Russian President Vladimir Putin looked as if he was auditioning for a role in a new James Bond film when he was seen venturing out in a mini-sub off the coast of Sevastopol, Crimea.Wearing a beige uniform, Putin clambered into the C-Explorer 3 bathyscaphe mini-submarine to explore a shipwreck off the coast of the Crimea peninsula that Moscow seized from Ukraine last year.It seems the discovery of a sunken Byzantine merchant ship off the coast of Crimea piqued the president’s interest, as he plunged down to a depth of 83 metres to view it.“83 metres is a pretty substantial depth,” Putin told journalists in televised comments after the dive. “It was interesting.”The Russian president, who has a penchant for adventurous stunts, previously explored the Gulf of Finland and Lake Baikal in submersibles. In another of his well-publicized exploits, he went scuba diving and brought up ancient Greek pottery shards that his spokesman later admitted had been planted. His stunt comes after a sharp escalation in violence that threatened to see all-out warfare return to the former Soviet nation’s separatist east.
